New System for Austin Fire Dept

Sunday, August 20, 2017

Last week, Koetter Fire Protection (along with every fire protection company doing business in the City of Austin) received a letter from Austin Fire Department.  This letter states:

“The Austin Fire Department has instituted a new process for service providers who inspect and test fire protection systems. Effective October 1, 2017 all fire protection systems test reports are required to be sent to the Austin Fire Department electronically by your respective organization via The Compliance Engine’s online system at www.thecomplianceengine.com.

AFD has selected a private company, BRYCER, to significantly improve AFD’s ability to track and drive code compliance through BRYCER’s online tool, The Compliance Engine. Accurate and timely inspection reporting, combined with this new tracking capacity, will reduce false alarms, ensure all systems are tested and expedite the repairs of fire protection systems, helping ensure the AFD mission of saving lives and protecting property for all who live, work, visit, or do business in Austin.”

What does this mean for property management?

  • No more FPS (Fire Protection System) Letters. (Starting Monday, 8/21/17)

  • We, the Fire Protection Service Providers, are required to submit ALL inspection reports as they are completed.

  • Repairs will be tracked and mandatory. (Violations MUST be reported immediately)

  • FEES are associated per system type, per building, per testing period.

Systems Tracked:

  • Automatic Fire Sprinkler System

  • Fire Alarm System

  • Commercial Kitchen Hood Suppression System

  • Standpipe

  • Active Smoke Control System

  • Commercial Paint Booths

  • Clean Agent System

AFD is holding a training for Service Providers the first week of September.  At that time, we should have more information and knowledge about this new program.  We are working diligently to stay ahead of this, if you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us at Koetter Fire Protection at (512) 251-7888.
